Landmark Keys

Guidelines for Minimum Safe Practices and Behaviors

The Landmark Keys are intended to communicate a guide for expected minimum safe practices and behaviors across all areas of operation. This list should not be considered an all inclusive list of safety rules.

Professionalism

We conduct ourselves in an appropriate and professional manner when dealing with coworkers, supervisors, and other individuals on and off the work site. we are Landmark ambassadors and guests in communities where we conduct business. We keep our work areas neat and orderly to eliminate hazards and to present a professional image.

Identification of Hazards /Assessment of Risk

The HIRA process is used to identify risks for each work task and implement controls accordingly.Routine tasks are planned using existing HIRAs.However, even subtle changes to routine tasks can present hazards that deserve re-assessment. When facing new or non-routine tasks we work together to develop new HIRAs.

Accident Reporting

All accidents are reported regardless of severity, including those that do not result in injury.

Vehicle Safety

Drivers obey traffic laws and use professional judgment at all times. Seat belts are worn by the driver and all passengers while the vehicle is in operation.

Personal Protective Equipment

Minimum personal protective equipment includes hard hat, safety glasses, and steel-toe boots. Entry into the work area requires this level of PPE at all times. Additional PPE such as gloves, ear plugs, face shield, respirator, etc., are used as required by the task.

Falls and Falling Object Protection

We require 100% fall protection. A harness and lanyard are worn at all times when working at or above 6 feet even when working from a  platform that is complete with guardrails. We inspect our fall protection equipment before each use and only use it for its intended purpose.  We do not allow the use or storage of tools or materials where it could create a falling object hazard for people below.

Crane Operations

All crane operations are planned by a competent person. Cranes and rigging equipment are not used outside of safe posted capacities and must be operated by a designated, trained operator. Safety devices are not removed, ignored, or defeated. We remain clear of suspended  loads at all times.

Permit Work

Appropriate permit(s) are obtained when necessary before conducting work that involves confined spaces, energy systems (electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical), ground disturbance (especially in locations where buried hazards may exist), or hot work. The conditions of the permit are met at all times during the specified operations.

Trenching & Excavations

Digging commences only after utilities are properly located. Hand digging is performed close to located utilities. Trenches and excavations are not entered until they have been inspected by a competent person and determined to be safe with appropriate cave in protection, falling object protection, and access/egress.

Ladders & Scaffolds

Ladders and scaffolds are used properly and only as intended by their design. Ladders and scaffolds are inspected before each use and if damaged they are not used. Fall protection is used on scaffolds and ladders when working at or above 6 feet.

Energy Isolation (Lock-out/Tag-out)

Work on energy systems (electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical) is performed only after being made safe and isolated. De-energization is verified and locks & tags placed to prevent unauthorized start up.

Equipment & Tools

Equipment and tools are used as intended by their design and only by designated employees who are trained to use them. Equipment and  tools are inspected before each use; treated and maintained in a way that reflects our professionalism. If damaged, they are tagged out of service so they are not used by others. Safety devices are not removed, ignored, or defeated. Equipment operators are responsible for the safe operation of the equipment and the hazards it may create for others in the vicinity.
