Project owner: Owner: City of Hamilton
"Landmark did a good job of managing the project’s union and subcontractor requirements." - Bill Docherty, PMP City of Hamilton

The Woodward Avenue Methane Sphere recovers natural gas otherwise emitted as a waste by-product from the wastewater treatment plant. Constructed in 1970, the 24.4 m diameter sphere required maintenance and upgrades.

The owner provided a short window to perform work during the winter months where most of their downtime took place. Landmark managed these environmental constraints using containment and heating to meet the scheduling requirements.

Operational Highlights:

  • Landmark performed a high level of research, engineering, procedures, and controls to eliminate methane gas explosion risks.
  • Mechanical and structure renovation, hazardous material abatement, coating removal and replacement.
