Summary

Location: Horizon Oil Sands, Alberta
Industry: Oil and Gas
Project owner: Owner: Canadian Natural Resources Limited
"Landmark was extremely responsive and well-prepared in terms of Safety & Quality." - Steve Fleming, Construction Manager, CNRL

Efficiently transporting viscous oil from Alberta’s tar sands region requires dilution and solids removal. CNRL required the addition of a froth tank near an extraction zone, which is designed to heat diluted bitumen, causing the viscosity to drop enough to allow solid settling and removal. The resultant effluent can be transported more efficiently.

Being in a remote location, the project had several hurdles such labor availability, severe weather, and material transportation. Through intricate scheduling and planning, Landmark saved the owner over $5M and the project was delivered on time within a compressed schedule.

Operational Highlights:

  • The constrained site required coordination with multiple sub-trades for transporting heavy equipment and materials.
  • Engineer, Procure and Construct (EPC) project
